I often get asked how did I get into Bowen. Some might say it was simply meant to be, or maybe, I needed more than “9 to 5", or even, I saw the light! These days it is all part of work/life balance for me and I still get a thrill from helping someone especially if they have not previously heard of Bowen, and when then they get a shock from how it affects them and more often than not, starts them on the road to wellness. I was introduced to Bowen by a former colleague who had herself received treatment as a case study for another therapist aiming to qualify. By then she too was about to take her finals and was almost evangelical when describing Bowen to me. In brief, she convinced me to give it a try. Added to that I was fascinated by the idea of providing a remedial therapy with minimal input and yet see such amazing results. I had played competitive sport for more than 20 years and had often received conventional therapy for my many injuries in the form of either Physiotherapy or Osteopathy that, whilst providing relief, could not prevent me slipping back into needing repeat treatment every 3 or 4 months for some of my more chronic conditions. Sometimes, to be frank, I could be left in more pain than when I went in. That is not to say it did not work, it was simply not my idea of fun. More than 10 years after retiring from Rugby and on the advice of my friend, I contacted a Bowen Therapist close to my home and underwent a series of 3 treatments that left me,...........well,.......................well! Let me explain: I felt better than I had for many years with fewer aches and pains, my general demeanour had changed, I was more relaxed and de-stressed all signs of which, according to Bowen, are the result of re-balancing the whole person. Not only was my back, the reason for previously visiting the Osteopath, now much improved, I was sleeping better (longer and deeper) than I had for several years and I had also rid myself of numerous aches and pains in my shoulders, neck, ankles and knees. My aim now is to provide affordable and effective treatment to others who, with time, will come to recognise Bowen as a leading player in remedial therapy and the relief of pain from many causes and, on my behalf, spread the word! I qualified as a Bowen Therapist through the European College of Bowen Studies (ECBS) in 2006 whilst still doing my 9 to 5 - well I still had to pay the bills!
